Lighting upgrade

Is there any way to upgrade the lighting in my tank using the existing fixtures?
They are regular florecents (spelling) that came with my tank it is a 55 with a center brace and two lighted hood fixtures.
I would like to at least be able to grow corline alge and maybe some low light stuff.

I have the same ? but no answer. There must be a way to utilize the fixture
with upgrading bulb and ballast??? I gotta keep researching ....

Any fixture can be modified. Did you not see my cookie sheet retro?? LOL.
As long as you change the sockets and ballast and the new lights are not so hot as to melt plastic, (if that's what your fixture is) then it can be modified.
