Lighting your clam

Just a word for all of you who think that clams can only survive with MH. I have 3 clams in each of my three tanks. I don't very often look carefully at the shells. Yesterday I was staring at them and noticed that they have all at least doubled in size since I bought them. I didn't realize that they have almost like growth rings on a tree. Some of them were only as big around as a beer can. I have VHO in each of my tanks. Anyways, clams can and do survive and thrive with VHO.

How long have you had the clams? Also, what is the depth of you aquarium, and what kind of vho bulbs are you running?

Depends on the type of clam also. I will say most clams will survive with VHOs just fine as long as there are plenty of them and they are not shaded.
Calcium is also a big part in the survival of clams.

I just added a maxima and a deresa clam to my 29 gallon with about 200 watt vho. High placement for both and I'm crossing my fingers. They are small so I'm hoping they survive since they're supposedly harder to keep. Wish me luck and I'll let everyone know in a few months how they've kept up.

I believe that they are all Maxima clams. They are all at the bottom of the tanks, sitting on the CC. I have 6 110w VHO in my 120 and 90 and 4 110w VHO in my 75. Some I have had for 3 years and a couple I bought just a few months ago. Maybe they all went on some sort of growth spurt all at once because I just noticed it.
