lighting

Does an average fish need lights on the tank? I ask as I am setting up a q/hospital tank at work with an old 10 gal. I don't have any lights for it? It is at work (office environment) with flour lights.

Actually in a hospital tank you want a low light/low stress enviroment. So no light will be good for the tank...And fish in general don't really need lighting over the tank to survive. It's everthing else that we put in our tanks that need it.Live rock, algae, inverts, corals, plants, and so on...

cool deal.. since I wrote this post I found a small light for a 2.5 gal and we made a stand for it and it casts a little light on it..kinda makes it prettier to look at as it is at work and we are planning on have a couple of small damsels "live" in it to keep some action and the tank stable.
