I have a 100 gal.reef with compact lighting that include, 2 atinics and 2 daylight all at 64 watts a piece. Plus I have a atinic and 10,000k daylight florecents at 40 watts a piece.I want to exchange my florecents for 2 metal halide bulbs on each side of the aquarium. The problem is, what watts should I put in it in order to do my corals really good? Also, I want to still use the reflector from the florecents but I can't seem to find out where to find the endcaps and ballasts sold seperatly for the halides. I want to hook up the ballast and endcaps on my owm.Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, Leo

There are plenty of sites out there that sell these components sepratly.Just have to do a little looking around. Using the flo reflector will be a problem though,I doubt if it's big enough for a MH bulb.Unless you get a blueline bulb(long and skinney) but that is still pushing it.These sites also sell reflectors. For a 100 gallon tank a pair of 175's would do nicely, but 250's would be a little better.I say "a LITTLE better" because the added heat produced by the 250"s will be a big problem...
