i was reading and none of the books tell you how to make the transition from light to dark and dark to light, i thought maybe i could put them all on timers, first i would have my little blue light come on and kinda simulate night then slowly the rest of my lights would come on and vis versa at night whats the best way, or what do you do???

That is a very good idea, if it is easy enough to do. Otherwise it is just fine for the lights to just come on and off, as the fish get used to the light coming on and off at certain times of the day, and since they expect it, it won't surprise the fish for the light to just come on.

Also if the tnak is near the window, and the sun comes up before the lights turn on, there will be an ambient light increase from the window, even with the shades closed. It will eventually be easier for thefish to deal with the lights turning on.
