I have the Odyssea 48" 265W Power Compact lighting fixture for my 55 gallon tank. Would it be ok if I just layed the fixture across the top of my tank, even if the top is open, or would I have to get a glass top for it?
You could lay it across, But It would be very exposed to the encrusting salt. However they do make mounting legs for it to raise it up a bit. It would help to prevent the crusting salt. Same goes for a glass top. It will have to be cleaned weekly. At least mine has to.
