I am re-doing my 20gallon long and was wondering how many watts I should aim for in lighting? I want to use a t-5 or MH system (would prefer the t-5 because the decreased, increase in water temp). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Really depends on what you want to keep. The 20" sunpod is a 150 MH, and probably your best bet.

Is it a problem that the tank is 30" long while the light is only 20"?

Current 30" Extreme Nova 2*24 watt t-5... The tank is only a little higher then 12 inch's in case anyone is wondering
