lighting

Lots of folks like to keep their fuge lights on an opposite schedule from their DT. And most will run the fuge lights for 18 hours.

Me personally I run mine 24/7, but to each their own.

What kind of bulbs do you have?? CFL?

Many people run their lights 24/7 over their chaeto, caulerpa, mangroves and also algae scrubbers who seem to report great results. I don't know if this would be advisable for some of the red macro's though. I've been running 16 on and 8 off so far with my scrubber but I'm thinking about bumping it up a bit. I started out at 12/12 but I'm seeing better growth now with the longer cycle.

Not 24/7 for plants. 12/12 works. Same in the real world. Maybe 14 on would be ok but not 24/7.
I appreciate your opinion. I do what works for me. I came to this schedule by experimenting and found that full on 24/7 gave me predicable results. I don't think I would go a 12/12 on a fuge. I believe that can make some macros go sexual and that can cause all sorts of problems.

It might be a bit of a balancing act that will be a little different in each situation. Each hobbyist will have to decide what works best for them. I know folks will run their lights 24/7 to help prevent certain macro's from going sexual but I have also read that 24/7 can inhibit growth to a degree so it isn't the most desirable schedule in terms of getting the most nutrient exportation possible. I do believe in the idea of at least some dark time if it's applicable.
