would 1500 watts of halogen lights be ok for a reef tank?
and..would i need some kind of uv filtering glass?

kelvin refers to the color temp- it is all about the spectrum of color-

lumens is more along the lines of brightness- output- kelvin is the color- such as blue light emmiting- crisp white, yellow, the actual color of the light- they are related but not in the sence that you seem to be asking

They are probably the wrong color temp.

I'm not a technical sort of person...but my understanding is halogen lights are the wrong spectrum for reefs...which is basically why folks use more expensive PC's/VHO's/MH's instead of massive use of Halogen shop lights.

not to mention they get hot as hell- and are loud- especially 1000+watts
