I have the stock 50/50 , I want to know if any1 has changed them out to a diff combination or if its best to keep it the same?
Would this be a bad idea? 1 stock 50/50 bulb, 1 hamilton dual actinic 03 bulb? If so, any other suggestions?

The actinic is really not providing a lot to the coral, more our own visual preference. The white light is what the symbiotic algae use for growth. So you need to have some maybe 10k light in there, you have some with the 50/50 I suspect. I might go with a 10k and a 50/50 or if you like the blue look a 10k and the 03 actinic.

Not sure what you mean by ok. If you mean for the coral yes I think it would be fine. It would actually be more usable light to the coral than you have now. Two 50/50 bulbs would also give your coral more usable light than you have now.

Oh ok, misunderstood what you have now. So let me ask what is the reason for changing this combination? Do you want more blue?

Yes, just looking into how I can get more blue / more color on the corals... or different setups that may be better than the stock 2 50/50's ( 36 watts each, 72 watts total, 3 watts per gallon )

Well if you think about it a little with the 50/50 you are spreading out the light a little. By this I mean each bulb has two tubes, one a 10k one an actinic. So if you set the bulbs in correctly you get 10k, actinic, 10k, actinic. If you go with th 10k, 03 actinic option, all of the white will be concentrated towards the back or the front of the tank and the same with the actinic. Now of course they are so close that the light will overlap, by I think the manufacturer includes the 50/50's to spread the light out. JMO
Again the blue is pretty much aesthetics. If you want more blue then go the 10k, 03 actinic route.

Thanks Spanko....
any1 with a jbj 24g dx go this route? 10k and 03 actinic bulbs instead of the 50/50's ? Results/Issues/Concerns?

if you want stronger lights check out nanotuners.. they have an upgrade kit.
also i have heard nothing but good words about the sunpod if you want to remove ur stock hood.

Well I don't want stronger lights per say in terms of a kit to spend lots of money, just better bulbs or a diff setup... Basically all I am willing to spend is bulbs, not a whole kit...
