Lights and Anemones?

From what I'm reading, an anemone needs MH lights to survive.
In a 65 tank; would a 175 watt MH bulb sustain an anemone? I've been looking at light fixtures and it's either 175 or 250 with a couple actinics that come with them.
What would happen to an anemone if the lights weren't sufficient? Would it shrink away?

i currently have a bta that splitt 3 times in 1 year.... now its on 1 year and 3 monthes, i have a 40 gallon tank that has 192 watt pc. about a 2 monthes ago i (stupid me ) put some live rock in that havent cured and within the first week i notice they were all looking sick and had basically turned white. 4 monthes later 1 of them moved closer to the top of the tank and looks great, the other 2 still havent gotten all there color back ,so i got 2 -175 watt mh that i havent hooked up yet because im doing a bigger tank. i dont no what kind of anemone youre talking about but i think a bta would do good if it was placed over him/her. i say that because mine done so good up untill the live rock incedent.

I am currently running 192 watt pc lighting. I was just talking about anemones in general, bt, or long tenacle. I heard the carpet and sabea were harder to keep.

Thing is with BTA's they can climb up the rocks, or glass for that matter and get to more lighting. Others like a LTA or many Carpet anemones are sand dwelling anemones and the usable PAR of the lights needs to be able to get to the bottom of the tank where the anemone likes to be. Only MH lighting has that PAR punch to get the usable light to where it needs to be.
If you choose a BTA then perhaps you don't have to go through the expense of MH lighting, but it wouldn't hurt. If you have a 65 gallon tank then the miniumum lighting I would like to see on it is 260 watts for a BTA.
If you had the 175 MH then that in itself might be enough, and should go much further than the PC or VHO lighing because of the PAR rating. If as you say the fixture comes with supplimental lights then all the better..
Without posting the link give us the details of the lighting, bulbs, spectrum and all about it and we will let you know what we think.

you cant post links to light setups for people to evaluate and give opinion... the thread will be closed out and moderator will say you are not allowed to do that, even tho they dont sell the product themselves.. if u want the thread to stay open, just post the specs of the light, dont give the link....

I really don't have a specific fixture in mind. I have just been looking at them. The ones I've looked at have the 175 watt or 250 watt single bulb with dual actinic lighting. Right now I have the PC Satellite with dual daylight and dual actinic, 96 watt each. I was thinking of just getting the MH single bulb to add to the tank. I just spent the bulk of my money on a sump since I have been running a canister. The tank has been up almost a year, just a couple months to go. I went with just the basics in the beginning and I'm trying to update to the good stuff now. But any recommendations on lighting would be appreciated. Keeping in mind I can't afford the $400-$500 lights right now.

With the 192 watts of light that I currently have; would a 150 watt 14,000K double-ended HQI metal halide lamp work on my tank to keep anemones?
OR should I just add another PC strip like the one I have to bring my total watts up 384?
A BT anemone would be fine by me. I just want to make sure I don't kill it because lack of light.

384 PC lighting would do nicely, Now if you could swing a couple of 150w MH then
Ooo la la

hahahahahahha thank you for the reply, I'd love to be able to afford a really nice lighting set up right now. But, I just set up a sump/refugium under my tank (new skimmer, over flow box, pumps the whole nine yards). But next bonus or something will get the lights in the near future.
Now that you have settled my light delimma; another strip it is until I can afford the Oooo La La MH. :hilarious
