Lights And Hoods

I am going to build a hood and I am trying to decideif I want to build my own lights in it or build it around my current light. I was looking at putting in two 300 watt Halogen bulbs. It is 55 gallon tank. Would these halogen lights work?

Halogens will only cook your tank and give you algae problems, they are not made for aqariums and will do you no good.
If you are looking for some good lights that you can keep any type of coral under look for Metal Halides, you have to get the kind that are made for aqariums though, the type at Home depot do not fire the proper bulbs, unfortuntely lighting is the one place with aquariums that you just have to bite the bullet and spend the money.
