Lights for my fifty-five???

I have a 55 gal tank w/ about 40 lbs of live rock and one maroon clown fish named Kennedy. Right now it has the cheap lights that come with the tanks. I would like to eventually have a reef tank, but I am paying my way through school, so it will come with time, but I was wondering what type of lights I should get????

It depends on what type of coral you want to do, and how much $$ your willing to spend. You could retrofit some Metal Halides with actinic supplimation for about $300-400, and you could keep ALL corals with that. Or you could get a Power Compact hood (i got a 260w unit for my 55 for $100) and you could keep Softies, some LPS, and mabey a couple types of montipora.
