if i were to jump to the 250's that would be almost 9 watt per gallon wouldnt that be to much ?

I agree with RFB.
Upgrade from 150's to 250's or from 4 bulbs to at least 8 t5 bulbs.
Just keep in mine that after 6 months, t5 lights loose their original spectrum of lighting and need to be replaced. It might amount to the same amount for Halide's in the long run.
Good luck!

I have a pair of two-fifties (250 watt metal halides) over a 55 gallon lps and softie tank with mixed sps... everything's doing fine.
It's in a 22" tall canopy.
