My 55 Gal currently has the 48" 40W fluorescent light it came with. I am going to be FOWLR and some inverrts down the road, but no corals for quite a while. I wan to upgrade the bulb to something higher (I hear 3-4W per gallon is OK for LR). Was going to purchase from hellolights.com. Which type of fluorescent would be reccomended: Actinic, Day, or 50/50. As I don't have much space or $$ I was looking at the 48" 50/50 110W VHO Fluorescent bulb. Would this be a good choice and should it work no problem with my exiesting hood?

I would go with the 50/50. The blue will help to bring out the flourescent colors in your fish.
Just to make sure: You do plan on using a VHO ballast correct. Since you didn't mention it I just want to make sure that you don't stick the VHO bulb on the NO ballast.
