lights

Does anybody have any experience with these lights "Custom SeaLife
New Smart Lite PowerCompact Light " If so is the claim valid that these lights put out 2.5X the light of other PC systems. The claims are that this system with 2-65W puts out more light than competitors 4-65W. Is this possible and even if not, would this system be enough for mushrooms and soft corals in a 75.

The 48" one I was looking at is only $114. It has onlt 2-65W bulbs but says it puts out more light than coralifes 4-65W. I am a bit sceptical of that claim but all I want is mushrooms and soft corals.

I thought the new hobbyist area would be a good place to find some help on this, being a new hobbyist and all.

It may just be that no one is familiar with them...You may want to try this in the Equipment and DIY Forum.
Sorry, but I don't know the answer either.

I use those lights on my 30 gallon nano reef...all I will say is, they are much MUCH brighter than the ones at the LFS over their reefs...and they use twice as many lamps that I do. I am very satisfied with them and I do recommend them to others who want to keep softies and lower-light LPSs.

I have no experience with those lights but here is my opinion:
I find it hard to believe it would put out twice as much light. 1 watt = 1 watt. Now with that said it could be a more efficient fixture, meaning that the reflector is angled in such a way that all the light gets reflected to the tank.

I think that is what they are getting at, their reflector is more efficient. As long as there is one person using them with good results, I think I will try them. Thanks
