limewood airstone

i just drilled the hole in the top of my seaclone skimmer. ive got a regular hi-pore diffuser there temporarly. my question is which size limewood airstone would be the best choice, 1 3/8-2 1/8-3 3/4? ive never used an airstone really so dont know what the benifits of a larger one would be if any.

i also had another question. any recomendations on an air pump. since its only in the skimmer would a smaller pump be sufficient ?
