Lion fish died...tank poisoned?

Our lionfish died this weekend while I was out of town. He was okay and alive Friday night when I left, but dead when I arrived back home Saturday afternoon. I took him out of the tank, which left my clownfish alone in there. Then next day, Monday, I went to look at the tank and the clown had ich EVERYWHERE. I got him out of there and into the qt, but he died last night, despite my best efforts to save him. The clown was a very hardy fish, and we've had him for quite a while, so I'm very surprised things went so bad so fast. I'm wondering if the lion fish poisoned the water in my big tank, and if so, how do I check it, and how do I fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have never heard of a Lionfish poisioning the tank. Did you happen to have a sea apple or nudibranch?

You may need to check your water conditions...lion fish do not excrete poison into the water. It may also be that your lion was getting ick and transfered it to the clown as well. Sorry to hear about your lost.

First I would try to figure out what killed the lionfish because that may be your answer. Fish don't just drop dead like that. What are your levels? pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates, specific gravity?
Did you feed them before you left? Possibly on Friday? Could you have fed them some rotten food? Did you not top the tank off while you were away and let the specific gravity shoot way up?
Lionfish do not put toxins into the water.
