lion fish is a pig!!!!!!!!!

everything i put in my tank the lion eats how are the other fish to get food. and i know that the lion should only eat every three days or so. is there anything that i can do?

What fish are you trying to feed? My lion usually doesnt even bother going after small frozen foods, flakes, or morsels. Sometimes he'll enhale some mysis but not often, usually a day before his feeding time. How big is this lion?

How long have you had the lion? He may just be very hungry. He will calm down and get into a routine.

the lion just came out of QT. a week ago. i am trying to feed cubes of clams or prime reef. his stomach sure looks full but he keeps eating. i heard that this is not good for them. i guess i will feed everything eles nori and flakes only the meaty foods once every 3 or 4 days. The lions body is about 5 or 6in.

My lion is about the same size, and is also a pig, but he will not go after smaller foods such as mysis, and formula one pellets. He will go after the frozen cubes, but i found if I cut them into smaller pieces before adding them to the tank he wont go after them.

He may have been a little bit starved from the distributor. How long did your LFS have him. Ration his eating. You can feed him two or three times per day, but make it tiny meals. Once he is back up to normal body mass, start cutting back his feedings. While he is eating like this, soak his food in fresh galric and give him vitamines. He is likely to go on a two week hunger strike once he has eaten enough.

lionfish do not have the sense to tell if they are full, because mine is a pig too and i researched it and i found out they cannot tell if they are full!
Please do not overfeed him!

Agreed. They are like dogs. They will eat as much as you offer. You should only feed until you see a slight bulge in their stomach.

Thanks for all the help today i broke the cubes up but it still didn't stop him from eating the biggest peice he could find. flakes seem to be the only thing he does not want to gulp down. have to do that for a while until i figure this out better.

I'm sorry, my dog leaves his food there all day and nibbles when he feels like it. I was apparently mistaken about lions. Over feeding is the number one reason for premature death, other than water quality, with them. I must have been thinking of eels. My apologies.

Try giving your lionfish a bigger "size" meal (wait a couple of days after your last feeding) and hopefully he gets the message that one bigger meal is better than many smaller ones. Doesn't matter if the subject is fish, dog or human, but over feed is never good. ***)

Yeah lionfish are awsome. My lion is out swimming around all day. i will be very carefull not to overfeed him though. I will try my best promise.

:thinking: Maybe when my new whitemouth gets here the lion will settle down and hid a little more so i can feed the rest of the fish

You can feed him two or three times per day, but make it tiny meals.
This is what I would do, feed your lion a few meals throughout the day on feeding day, but not feed again for the next 2 days or so. This way you are not overfeeding and your lion is getting enough food. Two of mine will grab smaller chunks every time I feed.
Feed your lion just until you see a slight bulge in the stomach area, this way you do not overfeed.

thank you V-lioness for your imput. I think i have it figured out i have been braking the cubes up super small and only feeding krill one the day i feed the lion. He eats a little every day but not much. I feed my other fish twice a day but only once meaty and the other veg and veg flakes. he swims around and looks at the veg but does not eat and doesn't get much of the small pieces of meat at the supper feeding. Seems to be turning redder now he was kinda green when i got him.
