Good morning. Well, my Volitan lion is missing the tip of a fin and the little antennas above his eyes are shortened. His has been a little lazy lately, now I know why. But who is biting him? He is certainly (or at least was) the "king" of the tank, being larger than the rest. I have a small Clown Trigger, a Naso Tang, and the newest addition, a Dogface Puffer. I have never caught anyone nipping at him, so I'm not sure of the culprit. I know that the triggers get very aggressive when they get larger, but it is only about 3" long. Thanks for any help or suggestions...

Like jw said you have to many aggressive fish in the same aquarium. The dog face is the last fish on the list I would of added to this tank. I don't mean to rub it in but it will probably get worst once the trigger grows. I'll bet it's the puffer doing the damage. In my first aquarium 16 years ago I added a dog face in My show tank with my lion and panther grouper, with days my panther was chewed up and so was my lion. I didn't know the compatability of fish. Shame on the retailer who sold it Should put him/her with some lions, see how they fair... Puffers scared, you just put him in a tank with other predators.

Channah,
Lots of activites happen at night! I would first suspect your trigger, then the puffer...they both could easily do the damage! You have too many aggressive fish in your aquarium. If the aggressive behavior continues, your lion will be more prone to disease due to stress...potentially causing another set of problems or even death. Your tang will be next! I would get rid of the trigger and puffer (find new homes or set up a new aquarium), there are lots of cool fish that would be peaceful tankmates to your lionfish and tang!
Good Luck,
wolfie

Thanks for all the replies...I think I'm going to return the dogface today. I'll get ripped off from the crappy LFS that actually buys back fish, but oh well. I have a feeling it's him, it's been lurking around the lion alot lately, and I never had problems until I added him. Hopefully this will help...
