I believe Neil Young, yes Neil Young of the 60' group Crosby, Stills, Nash owns Lionel trains, bought it a long time ago. You might be able to fine out more about them by googleing Neil Young. It will be an interesting read anyway Neils the man!

i actually already found a buyer... that was the most lucrative hour of research i've ever done! apparently these train folk are crazier than we are. i told him i have a pre-war lionel locomotive with all of the cars, track, transformers and some lionel issue houses and schtuff, had it appraised for $6G told him its all good/very good condition--- his response: " i can be there in 30 minutes, is there any other potential buyers?" yeah, buddy, there is... somewhere. he came over and offered $4K, i told him its a stretch, that i'd get back to him later this week if i'd be willing to "part" with it for that, and that i had other people coming over to check it out. honestly, if i didnt have it appraised and found out it was made before the depression, i'd have given it to my 3 yr old nephew to ruin, or sold it for a few hundred. either way, after i go on a spending spree for my fishtank, drinks are on me next weekend!

i had it appraised by a member of the pittsburgh branch of the LCCA (lionel collectors club of america). apparently the train i have is a rare one because of the age, condition, and all the cars.

Cool. Thanks. I will look for someone local. Mine are probably not old like yours, but my husband is old and he had them as a kid. LOL! He reads these boards, I better watch what I say.

honestly, it was super easy to figure out a ball-park price on them. the model numbers are on the bottom of the locomotive, and since i have all of the original packaging, the rest of the cars were easy to figure out. after i figured out what i had, i just did a generic google search for lionel train identification and price guide, and figured out i had a real winner. most of the trains i came across, pre-war were in the $1k range for the locomotive alone. i put 3 hours max into this, from finding and dusting off all the boxes to having an offer of 4 grand... not too shabby.
