"The largest fish pet store on the gulf coast in florida" is probably just as interested in making a profit as the smallest store, and they'll tell you anything.
No,
volitans are not happy in a 55g and will not stay small because they're in a little tank.
I honestly wish it did work this way, then I could move to a smaller apartment and my dog would no longer be 68 pounds.

Okay, now i know I've heard the 'it's hard to feed a dwarf lion' question/topic three times in the last couple days. Search the other posts regarding feeding dwarf lions, it is easy if done properly and if you get a dwarf that is eating in the store. Read my other posts.
What should you do? Your other posts say you already have a volitan in your 55g, so you can't do anything, you've already made the choice, don't understand what question you're asking.

A Volitan will get only as big as the tank will let it because once it gets too big for a small tank it will stress out and die, thus not growing anymore. Dont listen to pet store info, they are out to make money and generally will tell you what you want to hear in order to make said money.

the key is making sure the dwarf is eating at the petstore and is healthy. mine is doing great, and he took right to frozen krill. he hides most of the time in a cave that i made by stacking the liverock against my skimmers prefilter, but when he's hungry he's out and about till i feed him. then he goes back to his cave. i'm running a 55w pc actinic 03 over the tank and i think it's still too much for him, (20g long).
