Lionfish Question

Just a quick question....I have a Voiltan (sp?) Lionfish in my tank..he is approximately 3 inches long and he did something really strange and I just want an opinion or two. He swam to about middle height in the tank and he sort of "shook"...when he did all these tendrils of stuff came off of or out of him...they looked a little like tiny strings of snot (sorry to be gross but that's really what it looked like!). There were lots of them floating everywhere after he shook. The filter sucked them up and some of my other fish ate a couple (eww!!). That was about two days ago and he appears to be fine. No ill effects at all. The strings of stuff were not attached to him before or after and I have not seen any since. I am just wondering if this was some sort of venom he released or cleansing process? I have never seen anything like it and I have not read anything about Lionfish doing that sort of thing. Any thoughts?

What your lion did was completely normal. They do that to help remove any parasites(if any at all.) HTH :D
