LionFish "Sting"

I was looking at a LFS in RI over the past week and saw the prettiest Lion fish and since my tank is an agressive tank I am interested in getting one. But after reading sites that have warnings stating that the fish is venomous and by purchasing you are aware that is it poisonous and deadly.
Since my children enjoy hand feeding our fish (both Salt and Freshwater) My husband and I have a concern over anything that can sting and carry such serious warnings.
Can anyone provide more information on How dangerous these fsh really are? :notsure:
Thanks for any info - this place is great to get questions answered and advise.
Also one last question -
I have a 110g tanks
Current stock list is:
Small Porcupine puffer
Juvenile Huma Huma
Juvenile Bursa
Juvenile Niger

Honestly,
The stings unlikely to be fatal to an adult, more of a very major pain in the rear. However people react differently to toxins, to some it could be fatal. Just like bee stings affect people differently, mild annoyance, severe pain, life threatening.
Its pretty easy for an adult to avoid being stung, but not sure I'd risk young-small children nearby. Especially if their used to placeing their hands in the tank, or hand feeding.

LOL, sorry to laugh at this, but u have the perfect atmosphere for a lion to NOT be introduced into. Ive never seen one so incompatible, not meaning any harshness towards u at all. The two species of fish that lions do the most poorly with are triggers and puffers, mainly because they will tear the crap outta yer poor lions fins. There is no way that u can healthily keep a lion in there, sorry. Even if u did it, I wouldnt hand feed the lion. It might swallow a finger, and they can really extend those mouthes.

Wow - I guess this is how you learn! Thank god I asked before I bought it. I was reading a sight for a LFS located in PA (Where I grew up) This LFS was like the be all end all of information in that area. I knew I wanted aggressive fish because I fell in love with the Huma Huma trigger. and they have a link for Saltwater tanks for beginners and it lists fish that can Cohabitate together. It listed Lionfish, Groupers, Triggers, Wrasses and Puffers together.
I guess the experts when I was in my 20s is no longer the experts I thought!
Thanks for not calling me a Troll - I was honestly asking. And if I caused you to laugh in this hectic, stressful world! Yeah ME!
thanks again -
Corrine
P.S. I am planning a 700 Mile Move shortly and after all is settled a purchase of another tank - what ARE suitable tank mates for a lionfish - they are very cool and in a way serene to watch

like the other person mentioned the trigger and the puffers will nip at the fins of a lionfish. You should be able to keep the lionfish with any other fish though as long as they do not fit into the lionfishes mouth.

Yeah the lionfish wouldn't be to happy, but i've been stung my my friends lionfish while he was on vaction he had me feeding his fish and and stuff. I got stung while I was vacuming out his arganite and his grouper started to chase the lionfish and he ran into me while tryin to get away. It hurt less then a bee sting but I treated my arm with hot water for 30 min. just to be on the safe side.

I Dont know if I am able to post the web site - But they are not a online trader so here goes ....
http://elmersaquarium.com/nav/saltwater/index.html
If the link is removed - send me an email and I can forward the info.
The store is great for freshwater fish and other animals - My family has used this store for Years.
But sadly the info on the agressive tank is misleading

FYI- whoever said they were stung is mistaken... you may have been scraped by the sharp syringe like fins, but you were NOT stung unless you pushed down on the fins...
you kinda have to be stuck like a syringe to get stung, i saw it happen once.. actually, i was there for the aftermath... a dude at work was cleaning the inside of the lion tank and as he wiped the glass, he pushed on a lion and got stuck good... arm swelled up like a mofo.. but he was ok...
anyway, long story short, though your tank may not be right for the lions, your kids wouldnt get stung unless they were very careless.

I could see right were in poked but I've never had a reaction to bee stings or anything and I just didn't have a reaction to this. But I could see where it went into me, and unless you were there then you how would you know?????:D

No he ran into me while running from the blue-lined grouper and his little spines or whatever you wan to call them poked threw my skin. I started to bleed so his spines definatly went into me.
