My dwarf lion has a little ich it looks like, as well as one eye being cloudy, and i'm leaving in two days for four days.
What should i do?
He's in a 30g by himself, so it's easy to treat the whole tank. Thanks guys.
Pope eye can be caused by high nitrates, I would suggest a large water change to start. Is there LR or inverts in the tank? If not I would probably treat it with some copper based meds.
yeah, there are a few inverts, few crabs, otherwise i'd used my copper-based stuff.
But since i'm headed out i may sacrifice a couple hermits and go ahead and treat it. I have some Maracyn-2 as well, but I won't be here for the full regimen of that.
Okay, so I cancelled my trip completely to stay home with the lion, did a large water change, and proceeded to treat with Maracyn-2 for popeye and a treatment with copper-based marine ich medicine. Both were clear to work with each other, even contacted LFS and companies to clear.
And my lionfish still wouldn't make it. My first loss in the longest time, maybe a year or more, and I don't know how I could stop it.
Tank specs are all fine. Just this morning he was in the back corner with crabs picking at his eyes.
Most importantly, anything I can do to avoid this in the future? My old brackish tank has problems with popeye, even when catching it right away it still caused a lot of death, that's the ultimate reason I decided to dismantle the brackish tank (except for the eel). How do you stop it once it pops up? And if it's not my nitrates, then what?
R.I.P. Voltron the Dwarf Lion
sorry about your loss. I lost my dwarf lion not too long ago. they are such a cool fish and very easy to get attached to. I cried when he finally passed away
