I have a 55 gallon tank cycling and Im planning on getting a dwarf lion, but I am kinda scared about being stung by it while cleaning the tank. I know this sounds stupid but my question is, Is it safe for the water to use some kind of glove or protection that the fins wont penetrate ? I know I could avoid this but not getting one period, But everytime I see this fish I feel like I really need it. thnx prof

I'll ditto what jwtrojan44 said, whenever I put my hand in the tank, my lion goes over to "his" corner and stays there. He never comes around to see what I am doing. But, if he did, then I would use a divider to keep me and him seperate. I have no desire to be stung either!!

my lion sometimes comes over to visit and see if i have any food to offer him, but when he sees that i do not have and he goes and sits on his rock. only their dorsal spines can hurt you, when mine (i have a volitan) gets mad he turn a BRIGHT red it is as if you hit a switch. i gave him some new rocks and he has not done it in a month or so now.
someone bought gloves to reach inside their fish tank??? why is this? i have heard of it before but never saw a person say it (not being mean i am just REALY curious as to why)

ive never had my big violatin try to sting me. They are usually docile creatures. They wont come and attack you like a trigger. If yer that nervous, just use a tank divider, thats always worked for me.
