Lionfish

do any of you actualy have a true black volitan lionfish all that i have seen they are called black but look ordinary.

Mine is pretty Dark, with very dark fins........ However mine can go light with black stripes but the fins are still dark.
This picture is with my lights on.....

Another with lights on, I just can not get a good shot with the lights on...

This is with the lights off and just a flash......

was it that dark as a baby or did it get darker over the years i bought one from my lfs and it wasnt dark at all but the called it a black volitan he is only 4in

It has always been that dark.

hey V-Lioness .. that's a beautiful Lion .. I have a Fuzzy Dwarf right now and I was one day (when I change my 210 gallon into a FOWLR
) getting a Volitan .. what size tank do you have and how big is the fish?

Jam1e, This lion is 9-10 inches and in a 300g with three other Volitans, I also have one in my 90g.

10 inches! .. wow .. he's a monster compared to my 5 inch fuzzy .. but you seem to know a lot about lionfish so can you go to this other thread I started and tell me what you think? .. thanks

all of the true black vol lions i have ever seen have glowed with dark purple highlights not the orange rust coloring

From everything I have read, they lighten with age not darken, that is my understanding.
