Lionfish

if i bye a volitan lionfish what other fish would be compatible with it?

rule of thumb is anything that will not fit in his or her mouth. keep in mind that they get about 16" and the same rule applies then. just last week i was at one of my lfs stores talking with the owner and she said that a customer of hers has a large on and eats anything put in the tank with it. if your not stuck on the volitan try a antenneta lion imo they look better and they dont get but about half the size of a volitan.

i had an antenneta last year but il ost him when i moved he was my favorite fish. i now own a volitan and i really like him but i think i liked the antenneta a little more because he had more color. stay away from the radiata to me they seem hard to keep and are a little pricey.

Also remember many other aggressive fish will pick on Lions.
This is, possibly the best (and most overlooked) advice regarding lions. Lions are not aggressive, they are hunters and seldom will bother anything they can't swallow whole. Many triggers, puffers, and other aggressive fish can sometimes (not always) make it impossible to keep a lion. The lions fins are tempting targets, and feeding the slower lions can be a problem with the wrong tankmates. Depending on the size of the tank and the lion; I like fish like angels, large clowns, most wrasse including hogfish,(if you have the room, an Australian Harlequin Tusk is great, IMO), tangs, the easier butterflies, easier anthias, etc, as tankmates. I like to avoid triggers & puffers with lions , although I know many folks have kept these fish together very successfully.

If you are now looking at doing reef in the bigger tank your cost will increase dramtically. Lighting big reef tanks gets very expensive.

I would do a radiata (volitan is too big for a 75), snowflake eel, and a soap fish (looks like a grouper, but stays a little smaller maybe 8")

that would be the cheapest eel. they are also pretty mild mannered (crustacean eaters by nature). Keep in mind a volitan lion will be a floating basketball in this tank. i wouldn't recommend the lion for this size tank. you wouldn't have compatability issues with the lion and this eel. it would work, as long as it was filtered really well.
