Lions, Puffers & Reefs

I am getting the idea that lions & puffers are not good in a reef? Am I right?
Well if I don't have a reef ... i only have ls on the bottom, what goes in the tank for the lion to perch on?
Do I just buy plain brown rocks ... or what are my other options ...
I am clueless!

You can buy base rock, or lr. But, if you get the lr, all the goodies on it will get eaten up. I'd get lr.

Why would you get lr if you just said all the goodies would get eaten up ... youd get it anyway? Or was that a mistake?

Yeah, puffers won't go with a reef, so to decorate your tank you can use base rock, which is cheaper than lr, and if you have live sand, it will eventually seed your rock turning it live. Also you could use any rocks that are saltwater safe, check at your lfs, also dead coral.

puffers and lions will eat all the smaller fish and inverts in a reef, and maybe even the coral...
