Back on 8-3-01 I wrote a post about problems I was having with a new baby Stars and Stripes Puffer, and was amazed it had 34 responses and over a 100 hits during the month or so it was going on. Tonight is sort of quiet and I started thinking it might be worth updating what happened without using the original post with all the posting (it is in the last 60 day area).
Anyway the fish is doing fine now and after all it and I went thru the magic formula turned out to be a month at .1009 (hypo-salinity). The month ended a week ago Tuesday and I have been slowly bringing it back up to .1019 (currently at .1014- not rushing it up just a few points each weekly tank cleaning). This hypo thing for a FO tank is the best way I have found to cure a parasitic fish (not all fish tho will respond to hypo for ick, some fish can not handle hypo so ask first before doing any fish). At the time I tried all the things I should not have GreenX, Paragon2, and copper, but with Terry B and Beths pushing I finally did the Hypo and within a week the fish was better and now 6 weeks later seems to be quite well again. For those of you who doubt Hypo (I did for a long time altho I have used it with success before this case) for a FO tank it really is the best thing to try. Oh by the way I keep saying it which is wrong it has a name "Hannibal" and for the moment it lives alone in its own tank.
