These are natural filters so is there any need to have a filter in my system?

you really dont need anything other than sand and rock.
a skimmer is a great idea though

Sand and rock do make great natural filtrations, but remember we're dealing with small enclosed systems. Most every aquarium is overstocked and as a result you'll need some filtration help.
A skimmer is a huge benefit. Once you've seen the grime a good skimmer removes from your tank on a daily basis you'll never turn it off.
A Refugium to further remove excess nutrients is also beneficial.
Also make sure you have a very strong, brisk current.
