OK i had a 65g reef for 2 years totally stable. then moved the contents to a 120g and the levels didnt rise at all. 2 months later i added 60 pounds of stinky lr. 1 week later my trites are at .5 and trates at 20 . am i asking for it or what? my corals dont show any signs of being upset. so how long till things come around? or should i do a water change? i dont know if i remember how to do that. lol thanks in advance

It probably couldn't hurt to do some small water changes to keep the levels in check. If it was stinky it wasn't cured and obviously that is the cause of your levels rising. If your ammonia is at 0 though and are showing trites and trates maybe you've already been through the worst part. Good luck;)

If the live rock was stinky, it was probably uncured.
Do you have any fish in the 60 lb tank with the stinky live rock?
If so, they may be at risk.
I've heard from a lot of people that doing some aggressive water changes should help. Haven't been in that spot myself though.

My suggestion would be to go to the store and pick up a 30gal Rubbermaid container and put the rock you added into it and run it with a few powerheads and a heater for a few weeks. This will cure the rock and allow your tank to settle back down before you attempt to put the rock back in. It will also give you a good beginning on a sump/refugium if you would like to have one.

thanks for your input guys. my nerves are calming, and i think i may be through the worst. yes there are fish in my reef, but honestly their health is none of my concern. in my opinion fish are expendable. but hopefully they wont have to be. thanks again ill keep you updated..mobi
