does anyone know what these individual strands of purple-hair like things are growing on my corals?
i have these fake white fire corals and i was wondering if i get live rock, will the algae spread from the live rock onto the fake corals and turn them brown?
finally, if i were to add an anenome, what kind of setting would it need settle on?

Well, first things first....welcome aboard. The stringy things are cyanobacteria, otherwise known as red slime algae. Usually it is a state of a new tank....high nitrates, etc. You really have to get this under control first, before adding any live things....live rock or especially an anenome. The live rock will help, but will be dead rock if the perameters are too far off. First find the source of the nitrates....tap water, over feeding, over populated. Many factors can lead to this. What size tank, occupants, feeding schedule, and lighting is on the tank.
