Live Rock = Ammonia

My LR from SWF arrived Friday. I put it all in an unused 20 gal tank, filled it with seawater and threw in a couple of powerheads. I tested the ammonia yesterday, and it was off the scale (above 8.0). There is nothing (no LS/CC) on the bottom in this tank. Will the ammonia come down and nitrites come up without any substrate, or should I change the water out as it cures?

just change the water to keep the levels down, the desired level would depend on any critters you want to keep alive on the rock. You have to keep some in there to promote the bacteria growth, but not too high. good luck with it!
