Live Rock and Ammonia

Need Some Help,
I think I got some bogus advice and a chunk of uncured live rock from a guy at the local shop. I believe the piece was brand new, out of the package and only in a tank a short time. It's been in my take for a few days now, should I let it go? It's a 5lbs. piece in a 30 gallon tank. My ammonia levels are up to .5 with 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate. Iv'e put in Ammo Lock, although I don't prefer chemicals, I'm trying to save my fish. Also, I recently moved my tank an in the process did a 4/5 water change and change of filter, could this be contributing? Any suggestions? Thanks

Welcome to the boards!!!
Sounds like you have a piece of uncured LR. You can either take the rock out and cure it in another container or let it finish its cycle in your tank now. Keep in mind that any die off that comes with a rock must be cleaned off and allowed to cure before adding to an establised tank.

I would take it out! You have fish in the tank and your ammonia could go higher before its fully cured. Finish curing it in a seperate countainer. The water change you did didn't hurt, might have helped, do afew more over the next few weeks.

thanks for the help, took the piece out last night, 12 hours later, the ammonia is down .15 from .5 to .35 and dropping, there doesn't look like there is much die off on the rock, some lime green coloration on a piece. I scrubbed to piece throughly before I put it in the tank. ANyway, thanks again. Brian
