Hi,
I'm getting ready to start setting up my new 90g tank which i'm planning to be a FOWLR I plan to use 100#'s of Southdown play sand for my base with 80#'s of "Natures Ocean" live sand. Does that sound ok?
My question is how much live rock should I use ?
Also looking for recomendations on a filter was considering a Fluidized bed, has anyone used these?
I do plan on getting a skimmer and UV filter as well.

THAT ALL DEPEND ON WHAT YOU WANT THE LR FOR. IF IT'S DECORATION YOU NEED JUST ENOUGH TO HAVE THE TANK APPEAL TO YOU. IF IT'S YOUR TRYING TO BOOST YOUR BIOLOGICAL FILTER YOU NEED I THINK IT IS 1 1/2 LBS PER GAL. YOU ALSO STATETED THAT YOU WAS GOING TO USE LS, THAT SHOULD REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF LR IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THEM BOTH. NOT TO MENTION BASE ROCKS AND REGULAR SAND WHICH CAN CUT YOUR COST EFFECTIVLY. YOU HAVE MANY OPTIONS.
GOOD LUCK!!

Hey,
With your dsb and a lot of lr you don't really need mechanical filtration. I use one mostly for surface water movement and to scrub my water from time to time with carbon. A good skimmer is important but I'm not a big fan of UV sterilizers. Just my .02.

if your going with a deep sand bed (4-6") using live sand along with the soulthdown i won't need as much LR, but i would think between 75-90lbs would look great and also provide alot of extra biofiltration which can't hurt...now depending on what your gonna keep you may or may not need a skimmer but i would pass on other mechanical filtration (unless your planning on overstocking with messy fish!!)...
have you given any though about what kind of fish you want?
community or aggress?
if you go aggressive and don't overstock then a skimmer should be all the outside filtration you need...

Hi,
I haven't totally decided on what fish to keep yet, I have a Yellow Tang and Huma Trigger in my 46 which are doing well, thinking of more peaceful fish this time. I do plan to abide by the 18" rule for a 90g tank.
I would love to hear some suggestions on some recommended fish combinations for a 90g FOLRLS.
