live rock eh

I was told today but a ex saltwater expert and petstore owner that live rock isnt even a necessity for a living saltwater tank, ya can jsut have live sand and base rock... anyone have any thoughts

ITS TrUE!!!! but with the LS the base rock will eventually become.....dUH DUH DUH!!!!! live rock
so the guy was right...but wrong at the same time. Why wait though? why not just get it live now?

because I am using this just as a minor hobby and something fun to do, Im 19 work at a gas station and goto school still so I dont exactly have the funds to spend all on live rock. I appreciate the info you gave me though, I did not know that it eventually turns to live rock, thats very interesting, so again thank you
