Just a quick question I got most of my cured live rock from a lfs. However they charge $7.00 a lbs. Is this way to much? I know I could order online cheeper but I like to pick out my rock I like to have bigger piece, the last piece I got was 30lbs and cost about $200.00. So I guess my question is has anyone ordered online and got large pieces. or was it med to sm size? And do you think $7.00 a lb is to much? :notsure:

My lfs charges $8.50/lb for LR from their display tanks and $6.00/lb for LR from their bins. Of course, all of the really neat looking rock is in their display tanks.

I paid 6.59 per lb for some mostly cure Fiji rock. That's in Oklahoma. I know it's a lot cheaper ordering online but I haven't tried it so don't know what size pieces they send.

$7.00 is a a little steep but not bad, I guess. It does depend upon on one's locaton. In PA, a few yrs ago that was the going price,, but now it runs from 3.99 - 4.99 p/lb. The only way to buy quality LR onlie is to find a shipper that ships in in water. Otherwise, you will end up having to cure it.

6 bucks a pound for cured LR with no coralline at my LFS. 8 bucks if you want the purple stuff from the display tanks.

$4.99 for everything over 20lbs here. But there is this sight that sells Fiji Select for $3.50. That is the lowest I've ever seen anywhere. ***)

Here is the question....was the LFS rock truly cured.
If it was, it may be a fine deal.
Because regardless of what you buy online, as soon as it is shipped, it must be recured.
That will require some time and additional expense. If you were setting up a tank, I would certainly buy online and use the rock to cycle.
If you have an established tank and are looking for certain sizes, shapes and CURED rock, then it may be worth the extra cost to find what you want.

DAMN! Just picked up 15 pounds at a local fish store. The rock was on sale $3.99 a pound. Where the hell is that site that sells it for $3.50? Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Out of respect to the owner and operator of this site, we ask that you please not request links here or via email to other competitors, thanks

It's not a good deal...in general I don't endorse buying LR locally, as unless you live on the coast, it's not very competitive. Sometimes you can find people selling vast amounts of rock for a cheap price, and it's local. Online is also cheaper, although you don't see what you're gonna get.
