Live Rock looking dead

My lights in my fish tank did not work for about 2 weeks and my rock does not look good. I have not had any fish for about a month now. I guess my question is will the rock come alive again? I mean with a certain species of fish. If anyone could post any helo that would be great.

The bacteria IN the rock is still very much alive. The stuff that died on the outside will grow back.You should try to clean as much of this off as you can. This dieoff may cause an amonia rise.

As Salty mentioned if your tank was left running the nitrifying bacteria are very much alive but I would not worry too much about an ammonia rise. Anything that died due too lack of light was taken care of by the bacteria because thats the only waste there would be without fish or food. You may have to buy a piece or two or good live rock to seed purple algae.
