Live rock out of water

If you take live rock out of water and it dries out... is it still considered live rock? How long will things thrive on it?
I ask because we decided to cut back on the amount of live rock a few months ago during a horrible outbreak of hair algae. We also pulled a rock populated with bristle worms. We scrubbed everything and stored it in styrofoam containers.
I am starting a nano tank and would like to put in some live rock but I don't know if this rock is still considered live rock or if there is a possibility of the hair algae coming back... I don't know how long spores will survive.

if the rock dries out then it is dead rock. to revive it. just place it back into the main tank and let it repopulate for a good 6 months
