live rock question

I am moving into a new apartement next week and am going to completely redo my 55 gallon setup. I had a problem a week ago when I switched to a wet/dry filter and got a nitrite spike that killed my lion fish. I dont have any fish now. I was told at my lfs that all the bacteria in my tank would be dead by the time I move so it would be better to redo it and recycle it with live rock/and bacteria go juice. My question is how much live rock should I use. I currently have an established power filter running to seed the wet/dry with bacteria.

Depends on what your going to do w/ it. If your going to cont. on w/ fish only then not much maybe 20-30# or so. If your thinking of going reef more like 60-100# or more. It's all up to you. In my opinion the more the better, it's natures best filteration.

I have a 55 gl, and I have 60lbs of LS and about 60-70 lbs now of LR...Its all a matter of what you like....If doing a reef...I happen to like more Rock than not..

Your way better off going with a Deep Sand Bed and adding whatever amount of Live rock will make your tnk look good. Against most people on this site I believe the DSB is a better filter medium with the LR as addiotnal food/filtration vice using the LR as your base filter. The simple reason is if you have a problem (ICK for example) you can't simply remove the LR and place it in a holding tank for a month as your tank will crash.
The DSB is more stable and will withstand the treatments toi your fish during the crisis.
