Live Rock ratio to tank size

I've read that the ideal total LR weight to tank capacity ration is 2:1. So for a 75 gal tank that will be about 150 lbs. I have 75 gal tank and already put 75 lbs of LR. My observation is that the tank is almost full of LR. If I put another 75 lbs of LR, then it will occupy a lot of tank space. What gives?

I put like 60lbs of live rock and 60lbs of sand in my 55g tank and have had good results. I am not sure how i could put another 50lbs of LR in my tank. Good luck.

A lot depends on how dense your rock is. Sometimes you get really dense heavy stuff that doesn't take up much room, other rock is very light and porous. I have heard anywhere from 1:1 to over 2:1. If you like the way your tank looks with your current rock and you have good surface area and good lights to get coraline growth, I think you will be fine.

For a 75 gal tank you only need about 70-80 lbs of LR, You are using LS also right? so you have to take that into consider. too! I have a 90 with about 80lbs of LR in ther and 60 lbs of LS and It is doing Fantastic!

Thanks for all the replies. I do have 40 lbs of LS so I think I don't need to add anymore LR. In addition, I have a PS, 2 power heads and a canister type of filter. Thanks.

I have about 90 lbs in my 75 but half of it is Tonga branch, which is very dense. The tank looks like it could use at least another 50 lbs.
