Sounds more like normal LR behavior to me... Coraline will sometimes turn white for a short period of time then return... I added some coral-vital to my tank and it came back soon and is doing wonderfully...I also keep the Calcium around 400-450...
I also had some of my lr turn white after upgrading my lighting and I left it alone and after a couple weeks it started turning to coraline. I wouln't worry about it, just give it some time.
it is dead or dying coraline which happens when you get he rock often, or change the lighting, no prob, it will regrow, and is normal part of it's life cycle after shipping, it does turn whitish when it dies and regrows
Yep
What your seeing is most likely the calcium carbonate structure that many species of coralline algae contains. The living part has died off, which as mentioned, is very common
The algae has lost much of it's colored pigments, and you're left with the white cell structure. Leave it be. New coralline will eventually grow right over this old calcium carbonate, and it'll look and work good as new.
It does has a way of freaking us out though - given what we pay for good live rock.
I had an even worse case - my heater went nuts in my QT where I was curing some LR (I had no sick fish) and I woke up with nice bleached rock.
About 200.00 worth of pretty white rock.
