Live Rock vs Cured Rock

Whats the difference between LR and cured rock? Does LR have to be "cured?" How do I know it's cured? Is LR from the LFS typically cured? Also, when LR is stacked in the tank, should you leave some room off the back of the tank? I saw a tank that had the LR stacked all the way against the back glass and I saw lots of yucky stuff growing on the back of it.
As a side note, once I start up my 72bowfront (anybody got one for sale?
) I'm very nervous about the bottom of the tank breaking through due to the weight of the LR. Am I being stupid? Thanks.

There is no difference in live rock & cured rock, they're both live rock.Yes live rock have to be cured if you want to add it to an stablished tank. You dont know if is really cured, you can try and smell it and if it stinks that means it's not cured(usually)but just to be sure it should be put in a bucket of salt water to cycle. check the water in bucket for Die-off(ammonia)you wanna avoid having Ammonia levels before putting in tank.
Just stack your live rock and it shouldn't fall, as for the yucky stuff growing, you solve that by doing water changes and having a good clean up crew.
Just stack it good and you shouldn't brake no glass, plus the sandbed will soften the lr fall

Uncured rock is usually used to cycle a tank. If you want to add some rock directly to your display, then go with cured. So it depends on what you need it for.
