The live rock I ordered from SWF came today and it has purple, green, orange, bbrown colors on it is this good? Also I was wondering how long I should leave the live rock in the tank before putting other fish in there? What kind of lighting do i need to help the lr? thank you for all your help i am just real new at this.

I have a 35 gallon Hex with CC about 2 inches worth 25lbs of new live rock a Penguin Filter 170 GPH that hangs off of the side. A powerhead and 2 damsels I plan on removing when I finish cycling my tank. I have a 15w Actinic light and a 150 watt heater.

i would monitor my chemical levels pretty closely--ammonia may take a quick spike--how does it read now??other than that ,should be ok--so how did the rock look--any cool sitings yet?

I haven't gotten the tests to check ammonia levels. I have to get that soon. I have some pretty colorful rock but haven't seen anything that is probably unusual or interesting other than the fact that the rock has all the different colors on it. Is the different colored rock a good thing and what do I need to watch for?

yelling and redirecting others ot another post often will get you overlooked, and it has only been 1.5 hrs since you opened this thread, so be patient, you should get some answers
now:
the colors are good, they are mostly coraline algae(you may loose some, and it wil turn white)but it willl regrow
as for how long you shouldeave it in the tank, b4.........., until you have no ammonia or nitrAtes, i would with MO'ed lr, cure it in another container, b4 adding it now, if you already have fish in there, often with mo, you still have die off
the lightin for lr, is kinda insignificant, it is more the life you wish to have and keep, if you are going to have a fowlr, then, i like pc lighting, it gives off good light and really compliments your fish
other than that, listen to mh, and add another poweerhead
HTH and good luck

Thanks that si some really helpful info. The two damseld I had in the tank made it through the night and seem to be doing fine. When should I check these levels again? I plan on removing at least one of the damsels once the cycle is complete. Thanks again for all your help.
