live rock

It's one and a half to two pound per gallon for a reef tank. A fish only tank doesn't really even require live rock at all.

To my knowledge and to what I was told by my friend and LFS. Live rocks are beneficial biological filters that keep your tank clean plus it lowers your nitrates plus it provides food for your critters & fish. So I would have to say live rocks a must have IMO.

perfectly put. You just can not go wrong with the stuff. Not to mention it's a really cool look! Plus, fish love hanging around it and pecking at it!

Live rock is beneficial to all tanks indeed, but it really only offers maximum filtration performance if you have adequate reef tank flow which is about 20x-25x the volume of the tank per hour.
Actually, with 1.5 to 2 pounds of live rock per gallon, the flow rate mentioned above, live sand, protein skimmer, you need no filters.

can you argue that live rock is benificial to the biological filtration of ANY TANK?
Yes, but it cost money, so it don't have money, just get a little at a time and add some base rock as you go. As long as you have another fliter, you'll be fine. You don't have to have lr at all with just fish, but they do like to play/sleep/hide/eat the lr.

I have no live rock in my 125 gal tank. I do have 3 coral rocks in there. I do not have a reef tank. Anyone?
