You won't find lr cheaper than 3-4$ a pound. I got gulf rock for $3.99 pound. The regular bulk rate for it at the lfs was was over $5, near 6. Guess my lfs likes the dollars I spend there. He also knows I shop around and go for best price so he matches for me. Fugi rock is about the same price. You could get base rock and some live rock and eventually the base would turn into live rock.

if you buy in bulk it would probably be cheaper. but they usually go for 3-5 beans. you can probably do a search on the net for making your own live rock. its probably cheaper but requires patience and hard work.
