I found some Lr thats the right size and shape i need but i know that there is at least 1 crab in it and some big, black worm that i could see(maybe a eunicid, hard to tell). I want the rock but not these hitchhikers. What is the best way to get rid of any crabs, worms, mantis that may be hiding in LR before putting it in your tank?

I Just Cleaned A Crab Out A Huge Rock In My Tank Very Easily,
I Held The Rock Over A Bucket And Poured Ginger Ale Through All The Holes. The Crab Literallly Flew Out! Shake Out The Rock And Put It In Your Tank.

I Was Desperate. The Crab Had Been Eating My Coraline And Chewed Up My Bta Which Was On The Same Rock. I Had Tried A Trap-didnt Work-stood There For An Hour With This Grabber Thingamajig And A Pice Of Shrimp-arms Just Felt Like They Would Fall Off. Took Rock Out And Set It Upside Down Over Some Water In A Bucket-didnt Work. Read On A Post Here That You Could Use Seltzer Water, which I Didnt Have, So Thought I Would Try Ginger Ale. I Just Turned The Rock Upside Down, Poured Some Gingerale Into The Hole He Was In And He Jumped Out The Other Side-then Ran Salt Water Through The Rock, Shook It Out And Put It Right Back In The Tank. It Worked Great And Didnt Disturb Anything Else On The Surface Of The Rock-because It Didnt Touch Anything Outside.

LOL. Sounds like it worked. I would've just dipped the rock in fresh water and Skipped All The Capital Letters.

Wax-i Type In Caps Because I Am Old!! Older Than Thomas-with Poor Eyesight-this Way I Can See What I Type!! I Considered Dipping The Rock, But The Surface Is Covered With Mushrooms, Kelp And Some Colonial Polyps Which I Did Not Want To Risk-the Ginger Ale In The Holes Was Area Specific-and Fast- Plus It Saved All The Stuff On This Ver Large Piece Of Rock-wish I Had Done It Sooner To Save My Bta.

Wax, a freshwater dip will make any worms or crabs come out? How long of a dip? and will it kill everything else on the LR?

Wax should answer you-he is on the site today-but yes, if you dip your rock in freshwater for long, it will kill anything live on it. You can hope that a quick dip will cause the hitchhikers to evacuate, but it did not work with my crab....so....I still recomend my qquick, easy, non rock destroying gingerale down the hole method!!
