Live Rock

My 28g jbj is shipping today due to memorial weekend..I have about 30ibs of Live Sand in a bucket with about 2-3 small rocks in the water with wet newspaper on top, I also have another bucket with more rock but no water just wet newspaper, I've been meaning to head to the store and buy more salt and water and put all the rock into this tub I have, I will try to do it asap but it's been crazy lately with work and class's, anyway how long will the rock last in theese buckets with paper on it? it's been a few days, I really didn't wan't to buy all new rock from my LFS, but if I have too so be it :)

Depends on how long it has been in that condition. The rock with the water over it may last a little longer than the rock without but not much if there is no circulation and heat source. My guess is that your rock is already starting to smell dead. Gonna have to be recured I would think.

It's real nice rock, from a 5 year old 38g, it still looks okay...not to bad of a smell..it will only be in the water without circ. and heat just until my 28g arrives, it shipped today due to memorial day weekend. I ordered it from www.*******.com I have my order ID but im not sure if its Fed EX or UPS , it doesn't say on the website or email, so I can't track where my order is or call and find out whats going on :/

please do not post links to other sites that are in competition of SWF.com its against the board rules.
as far as cureing the rock set the tank up the way that you want it and scrub anything dead off the rocks and put it into the tank. it wil cause an ammonia spike * have water ready for a change and keep ammonia less than 1PPM* once the ammonia is at zero youll switch to testing for nitrites once they are at zero retest the ammonia to make sure its still at zero. when both are at zero do a water change to lower nitrates and you are reading to start adding your CUC.
this will vary in time depending on how much die off is on the rockwork.
If you have the rock now you really want to get a powerhead or something in the tank for circulation or the water will start to stagnate quickly. and the oxygen level will plumit causeing anything alive in the tank to dieoff quickly.

Okay, I purchased a 4g jug of pre-made salt water is that okay to sore my rocks in until the tank arrives?...I am transfering a 10g to the 28g, so I plan to of course add the rock thats already in there plus the ones I have from my buddys tank, also sand from his tank...I was going to mix it with my sand. Thanks for your help, appreciate it.
