Live Rock

Hi Folks,
I'm in the process of setting up a new 90gal tank. At first I am going to do fish only and maybe corals when I get more experiance. Now my questions, what is the least amount of live rock I will need and, if the rock should not be put on top of the sand I could use some ideas on how to do it.
Thanks, Jim

u want about 1lb per gallon..i have about 120lbs in my 90g and i think it could use a little more..if money is the issue, u can get some base rock..it will eventually become live rock..u should also put the first layer of rocks first then ur sand so if u get any sand dwelling fish or inverts ur rocks don't come crashing down..

Thanks, but I left one question out. Can I cure my live rock right in the tank?

if its a new tank yes the uncured liverock will have enough die off to cause ammonia to start ur cycle..don't use fish. u can use a shrimp from the grocery store to cycle..but uncured live rocks is good enough..
